Album Art

I like this album because of the vintage style that it represents because of the colours that it uses and the almost blurred image. I Also like the close up of the woman on the album cover because i want to do a similar style for my album art.

The simple design of this album cover looks great and i also like the font they used for the album too. The border around the edge of the album cover suits the art nicely also.

The colours and font on this album looks great and they both compliment each other because of the creative style.

On this album the vintage style works effectively with the natural shot and to expand and compliment on this more they have added a blurry effect and a border around the edge which matches the colours of the album and creates an interesting feel to the album art.

This album has a creative look because it uses a simple font with a colourful naturalistic effect.

Ludovico Einaudi's album art uses lots of inspiring naturalistic shots.

I like the bright colours used on this album, they reflect the range of colours I will be using. I also like the simplicity of the cover and the sticker on the front ( Sticker Effect )

ALT-J's Album uses no text on the front cover which is effective because they use bright colours and different shapes to attract peoples attention.

This album cover has a simplistic vintage style that incorporates nature using the colours, birds and the shapes of the moons at the bottom of the album. This is similar to what i would like to do for my album cover.

I love the colours used on Coldplay's album and i like how they hide most of the image with the silver cover.

I Like the pattern they have used on the album its very eye catching and sophisticated.

The simplicity of this album compliments the music and also has a relaxing look when you see the album because of the mellow colours.

Chvrches album is creative and i like the pattern they have used on the album and the colours match well to create an eye catching cover.

Cage The Elephants album uses lots of colours and images to create an eye catching album cover.

This album cover is almost a simple album cover but with an interesting feature/image on the front.
Because they have used black and white stripes on the album cover it makes it psychedelic and catches your eye because it stands out so much.

Florence & The Machines album is simplistic because it uses a simple font and the cover is just a multi colour version of Florence Welch

I like this album because of the large text and image on the front and how they work well together, i also like the small amount of colour that it uses on the text.

This album cover uses a large shot of nature but also uses people standing in the lake on a boardwalk and swimming to represent fun and friends etc. I like this album because of the nice background of the image with the mountains and the sky and lake etc.

The blurry effect they have used with the people on the back of the album is very creative and i like what they have done there.

I like the font and text on this album and the colours are interesting and catch my eye.

I love the fact that this album has been drawn instead of using an image a photographer has taken. I also like how the fonts and text have been drawn onto the album also.

Artist Biography

Rosa-Leigh
Originally from Leicester, Rosa-Leigh moved to London in order to be discovered singing and performing on the streets. After only 8 months of performing in cafe's, pubs and bistro's, Rosa-Leigh was scouted by Island Records and a year later she released her first album 'The Beauty Of Life'. Her music is soft yet energetic, matching the faint lyrics that feature in many of her songs. She is well known for both her style and songs, as she takes on a confident yet quiet persona, showing her music style through her fashion choices. After playing V Festival this year, Rosa-Leigh is doing an album tour up and down the UK, starting in December 2013 through till March 2014.

Artist Comparisons

The quiet and subtle look of both Rosa-Leigh and Birdy stems from the serene expressions and the waterfall of hair. The pale clothes and minimal make-up make the two similar. Their music differs slightly as Rosa-Leigh's voice is more subdued, yet Birdy's is more pronounced.

Ellie Goulding isn't afraid of giving a good performance, much like Rosa-Leigh. They both play the guitar and sing at the same time, however have been known to perform without their instrument to give the crowd a good time. Ellie's soft voice can sound similar to Rosa-Leigh's however, Rosa-Leigh is less mainstream, taking her music on a more alternative route.

Her look is similar to that of Lana Del Rey's, donning the more elegant and naturally beautiful style. Their music has been known to take a more sullen and repressed sound, slower songs are usually the most heartfelt and emotional. Their upbeat songs still contain an element of the slow sadness found in their other tracks.

Artist Profile

We are targeting Rosa-Leighs music towards teenagers that are developing their music tastes in various genres, and are not afraid of listening to new music that might not be popular at the time. They are creative people who are seeking to define themselves using the medium of music, fashion and photography, as well as develop a passion for independent artists, rather than a collective genre; they like variety.

A2 Preliminary Music Video

A2 Preliminary Evaluation Post Production

After filming I looked through the footage and picked out the shots we needed and put them into the editing software. We then got the music we were using for the video and placed it into the editing software and played it through to make sure it was correct and there was no problems with the song.

I then looked at the story board and started organising the shots in order of the story board which also meant i had to assign them the right time length as well. I had to align the lip syncing with the song which took a while because it had to look like they were singing the song because most of the lip syncing clips were close ups so it was easy to tell if they weren't aligned properly. After i had done all this i added in the rest of the shots we had taken and adjusted their time lengths to fit properly with the other videos then played the music video all the way through to make sure there were no breaks between the clips. I added affects in at the beginning to make the music video more interesting and to fill in a small time gap that didn't need any video.

From the editing i learnt that it is very time consuming and that you have to be precise with where you place shots and also the length of the shot has to be correct to.

A2 Preliminary Evaluation Production

When Filming the video we had to make sure that we had all the props needed with us on that day but we also had to make sure the location we have chosen was available to use so we made sure to book it for the time we needed to use it, at the same time we also asked a Technician if they could come along to the hall on those days to show us how to do the lighting and set up the lighting for the shots we needed to take.

When we arrived at our location of the shoot we looked at the story board to make sure we were setting the equipment up correctly and what costumes and props we needed, then we set up the lighting for the shots, we needed the room to be dark but have some white lights shining onto the band so that we can see them on the camera and because it brightens the music video up to give a more happy feel instead of a dark dull video that doesn't make you happy after this we set up the camera angle and shot type (Closeup, Midshot and Longshot) and made sure the focus of the camera was correct for the scene, we looked back at the story board to see the time length that we needed to film the shot for and then started filming. We leart took a long time to set up and shoot just a couple of seconds for the music video and that that the shots have to be right and the set up does to in order for the video to work well with each other.

A2 Preliminary Evaluation Pre-Production

Before we started filming we needed to story board our music video and make lists of props and equiptment that we were going to need and use to make the music video.
We also had to assign roles within the group to make sure everything was organised and everyone knew what they were doing.

When story boarding we go the original video of of youtube and drew out all the shots and wrote the time length for each shot so we could match it up with the video and keep the length correct and timing in sync. Also we used the story board to create alternative shots incase some of the previous shots weren't able to be made/filmed.

We made a list of all the props needed to create the music video and assigned people who had the props to bring them in for certain dates when we needed them.
Some of the props we used:
  • Helmets
  • Drumsticks
  • Guitars
  • Drums
  • Suits
We assigned the roles to the people who best suited them and did this as a group to make sure everyone was happy with the decisions being made.
Some of the roles assigned to people:
  • Director: Sophie Nutt
  • Camera Operator: George Gibson
  • (Lead Singer) Pharrell: Meg Rowland
  • Guitarist 1: Dill Wakeford
  • Guitarist 2: Joe Cuthbertson
We also made a list of locations wee needed to shoot the music video in to make sure we had the right location. We knew we needed a dark location that we can put light up or on to make it a bit brighter.
Here are some of the locations:
  • Main Hall
  • AVS Studio
  • Small Hall
  • Gym
We chose the Main Hall because it had lights built into the ceiling and on the floor that we could use to get the correct lighting for the shots and we were also able to play the music out of the speakers so they could lip sync the song to make it look correct.
